The AGTL ShowCase

Extract from: Annual  Report 2004

Incorporated in 1983, and privatized in  December  1991  under  the management control of AL-Futtaim Group of Dubai, Al-Ghazi Tractors Limited is a case study of rollicking success.

The AGTL plant located at Dera Ghazi Khan for the manufacture of New Holland tractors in collaboration with Case New Holland - the word's No.1 tractor manufacturer- is a hall mark of engineering dynamics. With the distinction of having achieved the highest local content in Pakistan's automobile industry, our most enduring competitive edge is the quality of our tractors.

With no short cuts to distinction, AGTL operates with a disciplined focus on all management activities- the most important asset being its human capital: the customers, the employees and the investors - AGTL believes that this human capital does not deprecate with time. The management works to ensure that all supply chain associates, dealers, shareholders, employees share in the Company's growth and prosperity.

Making the best use of the human, financial and material resources available to the organization and giving value to these resources, AGTL's continued success is the result of an ongoing struggle to raise local efficiencies, control spending and cut costs. Effort is made to make each process efficient, to drive down cost per tractor. Material and plant utilization has been the driver on cost side - the critical path being reduction in cycle time, reduction in work-in -process inventory, documentation of the process and improved quality measurements. AGTL was the first automobile company in Pakistan to earn the ISO-9002 certificate. The company has now achieved the  ISO 9001:2000 Registration valid up to January 2007.

Austerity and primacy of efficiency being settled wisdom at Al-Ghazi, AGTL's core strategy has been to be the lowest cost producer of the highest quality products. AGTL is the only automobile company in Pakistan which has not raised its selling prices ever since these were reduced and agreed with the Government in August, 1998.

With AGTL's name being synonymous with Stability, Profitability, Brand Strength and Customer Loyalty, AGTL's Corporate Focus is to achieve evolution through continuous change -  the deliverable being: to pursue ''lean management'', to eliminate waste, to reduce costs, to focus on all target markets, customer focus and to continuously add customer care centers to give fillip to mechanization of farming in the country.

AGTL's ''Work Smart'' culture continues to enhance its competitive position - thus market leadership of Pakistan's tractor industry.

In pursuit of the highest standards of governance, the Company has embraced all of the Corporate Governance Reforms promulgated by the Government.

Al-Futtaim's flagship in Pakistan, with almost 94% foreign share holding, Al-Ghazi Tractors Limited, believes that the only thing that tops progress is successful progress - hence the long list of accolades of Corporate Excellence.  Since a reputation carries responsibility, efforts to live up to its reputation at AGTL continues - endless, relentless.
